The Orange Grove home was completed in 1840 by George Haydel. From that time until the early 1900's, the plantation maintained about 500 acres of sugarcane and was fully functional. A sugar factory was also operated here for many years. During the early 1900's and the "Great Depression," the home became run down and was later abandoned. During the 1970's, the abandoned Antebellum mansion was restored to its original form among the 200-year-old moss-draped oak trees.

The mansion is nestled on a 4.5 acre tract of land and is surrounded by oaks and formal gardens with 19th century pigeonairres. This 7,000 square foot home features high ceilings, wide galleries, 5 bedrooms, 10 fireplaces and a total cypress construction.

Orange Grove is located a half-mile from authentic Cajun dining and there are four swamp cruises within 5 minutes (including the famous Annie Miller's Sons Swamp and Marsh Tours) and three boat landings within 10 minutes. It is only 45 minutes from New Orleans International Airport and one hour from the New Orleans French Quarter.
